I often find myself saying “I haven’t got time to relax, there’s too much that needs doing”. But recently, I’ve tried to challenge that and take some time to do something for me; even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
So if you’ve had a long day at work, studying or running errands and find yourself a bit rushed off your feet – here’s 10 self care ideas that will take 10 minutes or less!
Take a Shower
Even if it’s just a quick one. But use a lovely smelling soap, stick some of your favourite songs on in the background and take a minute to moisturise properly afterwards.
Stick the Kettle On
Make yourself a nice hot drink in your favourite mug, put your feet up and read a chapter of a book.
Reply to that message that you haven’t had a chance to read yet. Watch that YouTube video that you’ve been meaning to watch. Read that Buzzfeed article you saw on Facebook earlier and never got a chance to read. Whatever it is, catch up on something fun that you’ve been missing out on!
Bedside table getting a bit cluttered? Got one of the drawers that’s become full of paperwork and instruction manuals? Or a chair that always ends up piled high with clothes that never get put away? (I’m clearly speaking from experience here haha) Take a minute to organise it. It may seem like a chore but it will make you feel so much better once it’s sorted.
Take a little walk to the shop to get yourself a treat for dinner. Or get off at an earlier bus stop so you can have a longer walk in the sunshine. Take a little walk around the neighbourhood for 10 minutes to stretch your legs. The fresh air will be good for you, especially if you’ve been stuck indoors all day!
Your Favourite Scent
Stuck inside studying? Doing housework? Working from home? Burn your favourite incense or light a scented candle to help you relax and enjoy your time a little bit more.
Listen to Something
The best thing about this is it can be done at the same time as something less enjoyable like changing the bed covers, washing up, travelling home from work. Listen to you favourite audio book, podcast or playlist and it can brighten your day!
Make a little extra effort with your skin care like using a nice toner or a different moisturiser. Use a facemask or a hair mask, paint your nails a shade you don’t normally go for.
This is something I used to do daily but haven’t done in a really long time and I really have no excuse. There’s loads of quick, yoga sessions out there that are perfect for busy bees. If you don’t know where to start, check out Yoga with Adriene!
