Remembering 2018 and Setting Goals for 2019

2018 was a blur. I know there was a lot of hard work, what felt like an eternal winter followed by a never-ending summer that had the world cup thrown in there somewhere. Here are some of the highlights of my year…

January

I decided to try something new in January, so I chopped my hair off and got 3 new piercings. My ears reacted pretty badly so only one of those piercings (my helix) survived the year. It probably won’t make it through another year but I will definitely cut my hair shorter again!!!

February

The Super Bowl! We had cocktails and football-themed snacks and stayed up all night long. I haven’t got the time off for the next one but I’ll try my best to stay awake!

March

Snow, snow and more snow. It was beautiful and magical even if it did bring the whole country to a standstill, twice!

April

We were just glad the snow was gone so we ran off to the local parks every chance we had. We know now that this was just the start of the never-ending heatwave!

May

In May, Lewis (my best friends now-husband) moved to America for work! They weren’t engaged at the time so little did we all know, the next time we would have our photo taken together would be at their wedding in December!!!!

June

The summer continued! June was like one long, lazy Sunday. I spent endless time outdoors soaking up the sunshine. We also booked a holiday to New York for our anniversary in 2019. It’ll be Will and I’s first holiday on our own!

July

My highlight of July was going to Marwell Zoo. The weather was still incredible and it was a beautiful day out!

August

The sun was still shining but Autumn was just around the corner. After spending months outdoors, I spent a lot of August at home baking and reading Harry Potter.

September

My brother moved away to train with the army! We had a big family get together to celebrate his new adventure.

October

My favourite time of year. It was everything I wanted it to be and I was so grateful. There is nothing more comforting to me than the golden leaves falling around me and the smell of Autumn in the air.

November

We had the most magical adventure in Disneyland Paris where I celebrated my 24th birthday! I cried when I had to go home and only Christmas managed to stop the post-Disneyland blues!

December

My beautiful best friend Yasmin married her soulmate and it was perfect!

To be honest, I felt like nothing much changed in 2018 but looking back through my monthly posts, that’s not true.

I reread most of the Harry Potter books for the first time in 10 years which was amazing for my mental health. I discovered new books, new films and new shows which consumed my life and I don’t regret it one bit.
I applied for jobs and didn’t get anywhere which was devastating but I survived and will try again and again until I find the right one for me. I discovered new places and went to Disneyland for the first time in 10 years which was so magical. I saw my best friends start a new adventure which was like a fairytale.

In 2018 I put a lot of pressure on myself to simply get a new job as if that would solve everything. I let it take over and when I didn’t manage to achieve that goal, it really got me down and made me feel really rubbish about myself. I have no idea where I will be by the end of 2019 all I know is I want things to be different.

So this year, rather than setting resolutions I will do everything I can to work towards a goal that is small but mighty…

Happiness
I will make an effort to look after myself physically and mentally.
I will do the things I love in life and change the things I don’t.
I won’t blame myself for things that are out of my control.
When looking for a new job, I will look for something that will improve my happiness, not my bank account.

I hope you had a great new year and that 2019 is a happy and healthy year for you!
